A seven-year-old boy died in a tragic accident at his home in Balaji Nagar, Veppampattu, near Tiruvallur, on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as B Niranjan, a Class 2 student at a government school. His parents, Balaji and Saraswathi, work at private companies. The family had recently moved into the house and was still settling in when the incident occurred.
Towel becomes part of a tragic accident
According to police, Niranjan was at home with his 14-year-old brother, Malesh, and their grandmother while their parents had gone out to purchase household essentials.
Police said the boy had tied a towel to a window grill and was playing with it as a makeshift swing. A cot placed on the floor was partly obstructing the window.
While playing, Niranjan reportedly lost his balance. The towel then tightened around his neck, leaving him in distress.
Brother’s alert brings parents home
Malesh, who was sleeping in the same room, woke after hearing his brother’s cries and alerted the family.
The parents immediately returned and rushed Niranjan to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts to save him, doctors declared him brought dead.
The sudden death of the young boy has left his family and the local community mourning.
Police register accidental death case
Sevvapet police registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The boy’s body was sent to Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the unexpected dangers children can face when household items are used during unsupervised play.
