Kozhikode: The Nadakkavu Police unearthed a sex trafficking operation on Friday evening in an apartment located at Iyyambadi, Malaparamba, arresting nine people in the process.
Seven individuals were caught red-handed during the raid, including the woman allegedly running the brothel, her relative, and two customers, police said. The operation was conducted based on a tip-off and followed mounting neighbourhood suspicions.
Police reports reveal that the entire building had been rented by an NRI, who later subleased the apartment. Investigators are now probing the validity of the sublease and the NRI’s possible involvement or negligence.
One of the building owners, Suresh Babu, told the media that they had recently been alerted by a local family about suspicious activities. “Only after the police contacted me did I realise the seriousness of the situation,” he said.
The incident has sparked concerns over rising exploitation cases in urban residential zones and lack of tenant verification.
