In a deeply disturbing development in the Puthukkad infant murder case, police on Monday recovered skeletal remains believed to be those of the newborn babies allegedly killed by Aneesha and her partner Bavin. The remains were found in areas close to both their homes — one set beside Aneesha’s residence and the other in a shallow stream near Bavin’s house.
Authorities have confirmed that the recovered bones will be sent for DNA testing to establish the identity of the infants and strengthen forensic evidence in the case.
During interrogation, Aneesha confessed to delivering the babies herself, using knowledge she had acquired from a lab technician course and online video tutorials to cut the umbilical cords. Police also revealed that she frequently wore loose-fitting clothing to conceal her pregnancies from others.
Investigators stated that the alleged murders were carried out after discussions between Aneesha and Bavin. Following their confessions, the police team collected evidence from their residences on Sunday night, leading to Monday’s forensic inspections.
The scientific examination was conducted under the supervision of the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) and led by Dr K S Unmesh, head of forensic medicine at Thrissur Medical College.
Police have registered a case under seven sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Juvenile Justice Act. Aneesha and Bavin were expected to be produced before the Irinjalakuda Judicial First Class Magistrate Court later in the day.
