Ahmedabad: Smita Kumari, a dedicated yoga instructor at the Adani Group, has once again carved her name in the record books by achieving her second Guinness World Record. On February 17, she held the challenging Bhunamanasana or “Greeting the Earth” pose for an astounding 2 hours, 33 minutes, and 37 seconds.
This incredible feat was accomplished under the guidance of senior yoga expert Sagar Soni and with the unwavering support of the Adani Group’s Corporate Healthcare team.
The Bhunamanasana pose, known for its intensity, involves a deep forward bend with legs stretched wide and arms grounded, forming an inverted “V.” It tests not only physical strength and flexibility but also mental endurance and concentration.
Smita is no stranger to endurance-based yoga records. In 2023, she captured the world’s attention by holding the Samakonasana (centre split) for 3 hours, 10 minutes, and 12 seconds, setting her first Guinness World Record. That record was set in Ahmedabad on December 17, 2022, and her achievement was personally acknowledged by Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani.
Her journey began at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, where she completed her Master’s in Yoga with an A+ grade in 2017. She also holds a Diploma in Science, Yoga from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), graduating with top distinction.
Before joining Adani Group over five years ago, Smita worked as a sports teacher in Delhi and taught yoga at the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research, helping people embrace wellness in daily life.
