New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India’s (UIDAI) recent claim that there was no breach of the Aadhaar data, has made many uncomfortable and has led many more to question the UIDAI’s modus operandi.
With everyone and their mothers weighing in on the subject, popular and controversial American whistleblower Edward Snowden has also decided to chime in on the matter.
On January 4, Edward Snowden said in a tweet that the Indian government’s Aadhaar database is susceptible to misuse.
“It is the natural tendency of government to desire perfect records of private lives. History shows that no matter the laws, the result is abuse”, he tweeted.

The UIDAI however, has claimed that the Tribune had misreported the happenings in their piece-“Rs 500, 10 minutes, and you have access to billion Aadhaar details.”
The UIDAI also released a statement saying that the Aadhaar details including the biometrics, were safe.
The Supreme Court of India will begin the final hearing of the petitions challenging the Aadhaar programme of the BJP-led Union government on January 17.
