Kottayam: A heated exchange inside a village home near Pallikkathodu ended in a horrifying crime when a 46-year-old woman lost her life at the hands of her own son. The accused, a 26-year-old man named Aravind, is said to be a recovering drug user, according to law enforcement sources.
The victim, Sindhu, was engaged in cooking dinner on Thursday evening when the confrontation unfolded. What began as a verbal clash escalated into a brutal act of violence. In a sudden fit of rage, Aravind reportedly seized a sharp object and fatally assaulted his mother.
Sindhu, who made a modest living by selling lottery tickets, had been the family’s primary provider. Her older son, Aravind, previously worked as a JCB operator but had reportedly been battling substance abuse issues and was under treatment at the time.
The mother and son were alone in the house when the fatal fight broke out. As Sindhu prepared food, an argument flared between them. Moments later, it turned deadly. The neighbors, alerted by loud screams and the sound of chaos, rushed into the house — only to be met with a chilling sight: Aravind seated beside his mother’s lifeless body.
Authorities were called immediately, and the police took Aravind into custody at the scene without resistance.
Sindhu’s younger son, currently pursuing his studies in Alappuzha, was not present during the tragic incident. The investigation is ongoing.
