New Delhi: As the 2019 Lok Sabha election is inching closer, the political high drama across all party lines is becoming more evident. In one such recent development, the AICC (All India Congress Committee) President Rahul Gandhi has given signs of fighting the 2019 battle solely, after a drift with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP).

In one of his interviews to an overseas news channel, he had said that he was confident of a victory as the Congress party had witnessed “interesting things” in the Uttar Pradesh elections.

Rahul said that it would be a blunder on the part of SP and BSP to underestimate the power of the Congress party after its win in three states in recent 5-state-elections.

He made it clear by saying that his and the party’s intention was to defeat PM Modi.

Earlier, SP Vice President Kiranmoy Nanda had termed the Congress party an “insignificant” force to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh.

He had also hinted at breaking the ties with the Congress in Rae Bareli and Amethi, where UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are supposed to contest the Lok Sabha elections.

Nanda’s criticism had continued to an extent that he had said that the Congress party was yet to adjust to the alliance policy and that it would not leave its seats for its allies to contest where it is strong.

Commenting on keeping the Congress party’s stance on alliance, Nanda said that it would not make any difference to SP and BSP and that Congress was not required to defeat BJP.

He has expressed confidence regarding defeating the BJP with SP-BSP alliance alone.
