Abu Dhabi: Indian athletes have made history in Special Olympics held in Abu Dhabi by winning 368 medals.
The Special Olympics World Games came to an end in Abu Dhabi on Thursday March 21. India made history by winning 85 gold, 154 silver and 129 bronze. Indian athletes won medals across all sports events- athletics, golf, Volleyball, aquatics, cycling, judo, powerlifting, table tennis, roller skating, badminton, basketball traditional , handball traditional and football seven side female.
The maximum number of medals were bagged by the Indian powerlifters – 20 gold, 33 silver and 43 bronze.
The second event in which highest medals were won was the roller skating-13 gold, 20 silver and 16 bronze.
More than 7500 athletes from 192 contries were competing in the 15 edition of the Special Olympics World Summer Games under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE’s Armed Forces.
In the 2015, India won 173 medals in the Special Olympics held in the US.
Many of these athletes fight poverty and multiple challenges but nothing stops them from making their dream come true. The number of medals they won in the games stand witness to their determination.
