Four teenagers, including three minors, were killed and six others injured in a high-speed car collision in Udaipur on Saturday, with a disturbing video surfacing that shows reckless driving, cigarette smoking, and repeated warnings ignored moments before the fatal crash.
Video reveals dangerous behaviour
The video, recorded from inside the car, shows the vehicle being driven at speeds exceeding 120 kmph, with music blaring and a video playing on the dashboard screen. The driver, identified as Sher Mohammad (19), is seen casually smoking a cigarette while driving.
At least two passengers can be heard urging him to slow down as the speedometer needle crosses 120 kmph and later approaches 140 kmph. Seconds later, the car swerves violently before crashing into another vehicle on the old Ahmedabad highway.
Aftermath captured on camera
Though the screen goes dark after the collision, the recording continues. One of the occupants can be heard crying out in pain and pleading for help, saying he is trapped and unable to breathe. The cries last for several minutes until bystanders arrive.
Victims and injured
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Ayan (17), Adil Qureshi (14), Sher Mohammad (19), and Ghulam Khwaja (17). The group of six friends was returning after attending a Mehfil-e-Milad programme and had planned to stop for tea.
Two occupants of the speeding car sustained serious injuries, while all four passengers in the other vehicle, which was heading towards Gujarat, were also injured and hospitalised.
Police probe underway
Police said preliminary findings point to overspeeding, distracted driving, and unsafe behaviour, including smoking while driving, as major contributing factors. Investigators are analysing the video footage as part of the case.
Authorities reiterated that smoking and mobile distractions while driving significantly impair reaction time and judgment, especially at high speeds, and warned against glorifying reckless driving on social media.
