Sulthan Bathery: Reeling from the aftermath of the tragic Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide, Wayanad’s tourism sector is gearing up for a major revival with Splash-2025 — the 12th edition of the Wayanad Monsoon Carnival, set to take place on July 12 and 13.
Organised by the Wayanad Tourism Organisation (WTO) in collaboration with India Tourism, Kerala Tourism, and the District Tourism Promotion Council, the two-day event aims to boost confidence in the safety and appeal of Wayanad as a travel destination.
WTO President Sunilkumar MJ emphasized that this is the industry’s opportunity to prove that much of Wayanad remains unaffected and is open for tourism. “Only a small part of the district was hit, and it’s time the world sees the real picture,” he said at a press meet.
Despite this year’s event being limited to domestic delegates, participation has nearly doubled from the previous edition. A total of 576 travel agents, including 69 from Gujarat, 27 from Delhi, and 187 from Maharashtra, have registered. The venue will feature 150 stalls by tourism stakeholders and 10 commercial exhibits.
Tourism Minister P.A. Muhammed Riyas will inaugurate the event at 9:30 am on Saturday. Delegates will be split into two groups—one will attend B2B meetings and property visits on day one, while the other engages in local sightseeing before switching roles the next day.
Beyond promoting destinations, the event will celebrate Wayanad’s rich cultural heritage, art, and agrarian roots. Properties from Coorg, Mysuru, Nilgiris, and Kerala districts like Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Kannur will also participate.
