Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service is gearing up to begin operations in India within the next two months, following the recent approval of its license, according to insider sources.
The company has finalized its pricing model for Indian customers, pegging the cost of its satellite dish kit at around ₹33,000, while the monthly plan for unlimited internet usage is likely to be set at ₹3,000.
As part of its initial rollout, Starlink intends to offer a free one-month trial to all new users who purchase the hardware, giving them a chance to experience the service before opting for a subscription.
The move is expected to transform internet access in India’s rural and difficult-to-reach areas, where conventional broadband infrastructure has long faced logistical challenges.
Starlink operates using a network of low-Earth orbit satellites, which allows it to provide high-speed internet in regions where traditional ISPs fall short.
The pricing of Starlink’s device in India mirrors that in neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Bhutan, where the equipment is also priced at around ₹33,000.
Industry analysts believe Starlink’s entry will heat up competition in India’s already vibrant telecom sector and could offer a lifeline of digital access to schools, businesses, and remote communities.
This launch aligns with the Indian government’s broader push toward expanding digital infrastructure and connectivity, especially in underserved regions.
