A disturbing incident has emerged from Thiruvallur in Tamil Nadu, where a stray dog launched an unexpected attack on a young girl. The horrifying episode was caught on camera and quickly spread across social media platforms, sparking outrage.
In the footage, the child is seen walking down a narrow lane in a residential area alongside her mother. Without warning, a stray dog lunged at the girl, attempting to drag her by her clothes. The precise date of the attack remains unclear.
Thankfully, the child’s mother, who was just a few steps behind, acted swiftly. She managed to chase away the dog and pulled her daughter to safety. Hearing the child’s terrified cries, several neighbours rushed out of their homes to assist.
Although the girl escaped with only minor wounds, the incident has reignited public anger over the unchecked stray dog population in the area. Residents are now pressing authorities to take immediate steps to curb such threats and ensure safety for children and the elderly alike.
In a heartbreaking parallel from May this year, a nine-year-old girl in Badlapur, Maharashtra, died after a similar dog bite. Ritika Karochiya had been bitten on the thumb while playing. Despite receiving initial rabies doses, she missed a crucial third shot. Her condition worsened weeks later, and she succumbed to the virus while undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital.
These incidents underline the urgent need for stronger stray animal control measures and widespread awareness about post-bite medical care.
