KRISHNAGIRI: Eight people, including four children, were bitten by a stray dog near Doddametrai village on Sunday. The incident occurred along the stretch from Nadukalampatti to Bandarapalli. Villagers eventually beat the dog to death.
The injured children were identified as R Nivetha (3), M Subha Sri (9) from Doddametrai, M Ashwini (11) from Bandarapalli, and S Moulish (3) from Karukkanpatti. Ashwini’s father, C Madhesh, recounted, “My daughter was playing inside our compound when the stray dog entered through the partially open gate and bit her on the right hand. Passersby saw the dog and chased it away.”
Seven of the injured sought treatment at the Hosur government hospital, with four being discharged. One child was admitted to the Palacode government hospital. Another injured person, S Anjappa (47) from Bandarapalli, was bitten while riding a motorcycle near Ellamman temple and fell on the road. He was also treated at the Hosur government hospital.
The stray dog also attacked two other dogs, which are now under the villagers’ custody. Kelamangalam block development officer Shanthi reported the issue to the assistant director (panchayat), and discussions are ongoing about catching the dogs.
Assistant director Mahadevan mentioned plans to discuss the animal birth control (ABC) program with Hosur Corporation Commissioner D Sneha. Sneha clarified, “The local body should conduct ABC activities with its own funds. Hosur Corporation can only conduct ABC activities within its limits with council approval.”
