A disturbing incident in Mumbai has left a 20-year-old college student traumatised after she was allegedly dragged out of her residence and assaulted by three fellow students over personal suspicion.

Late-night assault inside residential complex

According to police, the incident occurred around 12.30 am at the victim’s residence in Versova while her parents were away. The accused—three women aged between 20 and 21—allegedly forced their way into the apartment, dragged the victim outside, and cut her hair.

The act was reportedly recorded on a mobile phone, with the accused allegedly threatening to circulate the video on social media to defame her.

Motive linked to suspicion and jealousy

Police investigations suggest that the main accused suspected the victim of being involved with her boyfriend. Reports indicate that the suspicion arose after the boyfriend complimented the victim’s long hair.

Despite no evidence of any relationship, the accused allegedly confronted the victim earlier and even checked her phone days before the incident, but found nothing.

Case registered, probe underway

The Mumbai Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to assault and criminal intimidation.

Officials confirmed that CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and efforts are underway to trace and question the accused.

Experts warn of emotional triggers

Mental health experts say such incidents often stem from intense jealousy and insecurity. When combined with possessiveness, these emotions can escalate quickly into aggression and violence.

The case has raised concerns about the growing impact of emotional instability, peer conflicts, and social media threats among young adults.
