Kuldeep Saroj, a third-year law student at Mumbai University (MU), claims he has been left in academic uncertainty after discovering that five of his answers in the semester-five BNSS (Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023) paper were not evaluated. As a result, he received only 20.5 marks and failed the subject.
Saroj, who took the exam in December 2024, was shocked when his results arrived on February 13. Upon applying for a photocopy and revaluation, he found that five answers remained unchecked. Despite repeated visits to the examination department since February 17, he has not received any resolution.
Growing anxious as the ATKT (Allowed to Keep Terms) exam approaches on April 4, Saroj escalated the matter by writing to the director of the Examination and Evaluation Department. However, even after being directed to a concerned official, he was told there is no timeline for when his revaluation would be completed.
His peers have rallied behind him, urging MU to speed up the process, highlighting how such negligence could derail his academic progress. Saroj also mentioned facing a similar issue in another subject, where one of his answers had also gone unchecked, though he narrowly passed.
An MU spokesperson confirmed that Saroj’s revaluation request is being processed but provided no definitive date for result declaration.
This incident adds to a string of complaints against MU’s examination department, which faced allegations last year regarding deliberate tampering of marks in another student’s case.
