Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth has supported the linking of rivers mentioned in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election manifesto.
Addressing the media outside his residence in Chennai, Rajini said, “Linking of rivers was the dream of our late prime minister Vajpayee. I had met him once when he was the prime minister and discussed with him about the project. I had requested him to name the project ‘Bhageeratha Yojana’, which he liked very much. Bhageeratha means making the impossible possible.”
Rajini said that the BJP in its manifesto, has mentioned that it would link the country’s rivers and would also appoint a committee for the same. “That is a welcome move. If the NDA forms the government at the centre, they should first link all the rivers in the country,” he added.
The superstar opines that if that river-linking is done, half the poverty in the country can be eradicated and farmers’ lives can be improved.
When asked about actor Kamal Hassan’s political party ‘Makkal Needhi Maiam’, Rajini said, “I do not wish to speak anything about it. Please do not blow up this issue and spoil our friendship.”
Earlier this year, Rajini had mentioned that he or his party members would not be contesting the Lok Sabha polls and that they aimed to contest the Tamil Nadu Assembly Polls slated for 2021.
