Popular podcaster and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, facing legal scrutiny over inappropriate remarks, has been granted permission by the Supreme Court to resume his show The Ranveer Show. However, the court emphasized that he must adhere to an undertaking to maintain decency in his content.

Allahbadia had approached the court seeking a modification of the earlier restriction preventing him from airing content, arguing that content creation is his sole source of livelihood, impacting nearly 280 people dependent on his platform.

The controversy arose from his remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent show, which the Supreme Court condemned, asserting that vulgarity does not constitute talent. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed Allahbadia’s plea, urging the court to deny his request, stating, “Let him remain silent for some time.”

While granting interim relief, the court directed the Assam police to schedule a time for Allahbadia to participate in the ongoing investigation. His request to travel abroad for events will be considered only after his cooperation with authorities. Meanwhile, his protection from arrest remains in effect.

The Supreme Court also called for a potential regulatory framework to balance free speech with moral standards, emphasizing that any new measures must not infringe on Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution.
