Two people lost their lives and nine others were injured after a gas cylinder explosion in Gujarat’s Surat city early on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 5:30 am in the Kapodra area, creating panic among residents.

Injured rushed to hospital

Officials said the injured were immediately shifted to Smeimer Hospital for treatment.

Emergency teams reached the spot soon after the blast and began rescue and relief operations.

Illegal refilling suspected

Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion may have been linked to illegal gas refilling activity at the site.

Authorities recovered multiple gas cylinders from the location, raising concerns about unsafe handling and storage.

Investigation underway

Police and fire department officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the blast.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with unauthorised LPG refilling, especially at a time when supply issues are being reported in several regions.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid illegal refilling practices and ensure adherence to safety norms while handling gas cylinders.
