New Delhi: Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs, has said that India will be looking into the case of a Karnataka-based driver whose video went viral on the internet.
Abdul Sattar Makandar(35) had migrated to Saudi Arabia two years ago but is apparently facing harassment from his employers.
Kundan Srivastava, a human rights activist, had uploaded the hear-rending video of Makandar only to delete and apologise for the same as the Saudi officials objected to it. Nevertheless, Makandar was arrested again.
Sushma Swaraj who received the report from the Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia, has requested to handle the issue at diplomatic level.
Saudi Arabia has strict laws to prevent “spreading misinformation” through social media and Makandar had violated the same.
Makandar had said in the video that he was in Saudi Arabia from 23 months and had applied for leave five months ago. But his employer was letting him go home.
“My employer has not given me salary, neither has he given me money for food,” he said in the video.
Al Suroor United Group, Makandar’s employers, have rejected the charges and also responded saying that all the employees in the company were entitled t a leave after two years of work and Makandar’s completion of two years was six week away.
