A 36-year-old woman, Madhurima Roy, tragically died after collapsing on the staircase during a Diwali party at her boyfriend’s home in Garfa. She was transported to MR Bangur Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Preliminary findings from the post-mortem indicated internal hemorrhage.
While no formal complaints have been filed, Madhurima’s father, Bachchu Som, and her estranged husband have raised suspicions of foul play. Contradictory accounts of the events leading to her death have emerged from those present at the party. Madhumita Chowdhury, Madhurima’s sister, and her boyfriend, Bikash Dutta, claim she collapsed after consuming alcohol, attributing her death to potential health issues exacerbated by drinking.
Conversely, Durga Dutta, Bikash’s mother, presented a different narrative, stating that she and her son had found Madhurima lying face down in the apartment upon returning from a doctor’s visit. They initially assumed she was sleeping but called emergency services when she failed to respond.
Investigators noted that Madhurima was under stress due to her ongoing divorce, with neighbors indicating she may have been a habitual drinker. As the police await the comprehensive post-mortem report, they have refrained from concluding whether foul play was involved.
As of now, no official complaint has been lodged, but the situation remains under scrutiny given the allegations and conflicting testimonies. The case has drawn significant attention in the community, with claims about Bikash’s past, including a recent stay in a rehabilitation center, adding to the intrigue.
