Chennai: Heavy Rain Sparks Severe Waterlogging in Chennai as Cyclone Michaung Nears Tamil Nadu Coast. Flooded Roads and Submerged Cars Prompt Closure of Institutions in Chennai Amid Heavy Rain.

Heavy rain has caused extensive waterlogging in Chennai. Videos circulating online capture flooded roads and submerged cars, leading authorities to declare the closure of schools, colleges, and government offices.

The impact on transportation is evident, with Chennai airport suspending operations. Twelve domestic outbound flights and four international flights have been canceled, while three incoming international flights were diverted to Bengaluru due to challenging weather conditions.”

Persistent rain in has led to power outages and internet disruptions in several areas of the city. In response, officials have declared a public holiday in Chennai today. The state government is encouraging private companies to enable their employees to work from home.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued predictions for heavy rainfall in Chennai and its surrounding areas for the next 24 hours. Additionally, the cyclone is anticipated to make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam tomorrow noon.
