Chennai: Jaffar Sadiq, a Tamil film producer allegedly linked to a Rs 2,000-crore drugs bust, was apprehended by the Delhi Police Special Cell and Narcotics Control Board (NCB) on Saturday.

According to NCB, Sadiq is suspected to have operated a drug syndicate responsible for dispatching 45 consignments over the past three years to various countries. These shipments reportedly contained around 3,500 kg of pseudoephedrine.

NCB further stated that Sadiq admitted to amassing significant profits from his illegal drug trafficking endeavors and subsequently investing the proceeds into legitimate businesses across sectors like film, construction, and hospitality, among others.

Previously, three individuals were detained, and a substantial quantity of chemicals used in narcotics production was confiscated in Delhi during a collaborative operation conducted by NCB and the Delhi Police’s Special Cell to dismantle an international drug trafficking network.

The Delhi Police, alongside NCB, had been on the lookout for Sadiq for over two weeks. The trio arrested earlier in Delhi were found in possession of 50 kg of pseudoephedrine.

Drug trafficking activities were reportedly conducted through air and sea cargo, often concealed within food products like health mix powder and desiccated coconut.

NCB is presently collaborating with authorities in New Zealand and Australia following alerts from the New Zealand Customs and Australian police regarding the dispatch of large quantities of pseudoephedrine to these countries.
