New Delhi: Taxi for Sure, an app based cab aggregator is in the dock after one of its drivers traumatized a woman passenger with obscene acts during a ride from Saket to Faridabad on July 2. The cabbie masturbated while smiling at her, the woman claimed in a Facebook and Twitter post causing an outrage on social media with more than 200 retweets and replies of her post in quick time. The woman however is yet to file a police complaint, which she told the Times of India that she would if the company did not pursue the matter with driver, Devender Kumar, which they promised her they would after contacting her on Monday.
“They have not contacted me since then. I will be registering a police complaint if the cab service provider does not contact me within the next few days,” she said.
Taxi For Sure, is a part of Ola cabs, after being taken over by them, said that the driver had been blacklisted and his services terminated. “We regret the experience the passenger had, and we condemn the driver’s actions. We will continue to work closely with the passenger and will support her and the authorities in every possible manner, as and when required,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
The woman booked a cab around 9.15pm and driver Devender Kumar was assigned to her in a Swift cab (DL 01YE 3341).
In her Facebook post, the link to which she put on her twitter account as well, the woman says, “Like everyday I booked a cab via Ola cabs last night, except it was a Taxi For Sure (cab) from Saket, south Delhi to Faridabad, Haryana. Everything from the car to the driver seemed alright. I am usually on calls when in transit so I asked the driver to mellow the music thrice. As I was roughly 25 minutes away from my destination the driver got impatient and started driving rashly. Moreover, he seemed extremely restless anxious and kept mumbling something to himself.”
The woman says she discontinued the call and asked him to drive properly in the “most polite manner possible”. “I was about to make another call when I notice he was masturbating while driving. He had little control over the wheel as well as his perverseness. He had a smile on his face that will haunt me for the nights to come,” her post says.
“A psychotic man with a severe chemical imbalance for a driver is nothing but dangerous. Since it was late only thing I could do was to open my window as I counted the seconds to reach home,” it adds.
She confronted the driver after reaching home but he denied the act. “I called Ola, they directed me to Taxi For Sure. Called TFS whose barely trained call centre technicians gave me a standard reply – Madam, we will take action against the driver in 24 hours.”
“Attached is a picture with the details of the driver who is registered with Ola, Uber or Taxi For Sure. Kindly do not engage with him while booking a cab via any of these apps,” she warned.
As Twitter users bombed the victim with queries and support, she posted more details of her interaction with the Taxi For Sure representatives. “So I met two reps from @TFSCares at my office today who ensured (sic) they’ve fired the driver in question. My only question to them: Is it enough?” she tweeted.
“Customer experience is our key focus, and in line with this, we take safety of each and every one of our passengers very seriously. We have invested significantly towards ensuring that our customers feel safe with us through live GPS tracking, Inform a Friend Feature and our 24*7 call centre,” the Taxi Fore Sure spokesperson said.
