A 24-year-old employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was found dead in the washroom of the company’s office at Hinjewadi IT Park in Pune late Tuesday night, in what police believe to be a case of suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Sujal Vinod Oswal. Police said he allegedly took his life by hanging himself using a mobile phone charging wire inside the office washroom.

Body found during night patrol

According to police officials, the incident came to light around 12.30 am when security personnel, during routine night patrolling, found the young man unresponsive inside the washroom. Senior office officials were immediately informed, following which the local police were alerted.

A team from the Hinjewadi police station rushed to the spot and began an investigation. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination.

Financial stress suspected motive

A senior police officer said preliminary investigation indicated that the employee was under severe financial stress.
“Initial findings suggest suicide. The deceased had reportedly suffered heavy financial losses due to betting and had sent a message to his family members before the incident,” the officer said.

Police said the exact sequence of events leading up to the death is being examined in detail.

Statements being recorded

Investigators are currently questioning the deceased’s colleagues, family members and company representatives to establish further details. Officials said a comprehensive report would be prepared once the post-mortem findings and statements are reviewed.

The incident has once again raised concerns about mental health pressures among young professionals working in high-stress corporate environments, especially those dealing with financial distress.

Police said no foul play is suspected at this stage.
