A government school teacher in Bihar’s Vaishali district allegedly died by suicide at her rented residence, leaving behind a deeply emotional note that has raised serious concerns and questions. The 30-year-old woman, identified as Priya Bharti, was found hanging at her home in Sehan village on Monday night, police said.

According to officials, a handwritten note recovered from the spot stated that she was ending her life due to illness and that no one should be held responsible for her death. In the note, she apologised to her parents and made a series of unusual and poignant requests regarding her last rites.

Unusual last wishes leave family and police shaken

In her note, Bharti requested that her body not be taken to her native village Rasulpur and that her funeral be conducted at the place where she died. She also wrote that the funeral pyre should be lit by her three-month-old daughter and not by her husband.

She further asked that her mobile phone be handed over to her husband, noting that it contained messages, audio clips and videos and that he knew the password. In another striking detail, she mentioned an outstanding payment for 5.5 litres of milk and requested that the amount be paid from the cash in her purse.

“I apologise to everyone whose feelings I have hurt… Mom, dad, your daughter has lost. Sorry mom,” the note read.

Family alleges harassment, police begin probe

Despite the contents of the note, Bharti’s family has alleged that she was being harassed by her husband, Deepak Raj, and her in-laws. They claim she had earlier confided in her mother about mental distress and ill-treatment at home.

Police confirmed that the body was taken into custody and a post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday. “An investigation is underway. So far, we have not received a formal complaint from the woman’s family,” said Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sanjeev Kumar.

Authorities said further action would depend on the findings of the investigation and any complaints that may be submitted.
