Teashop owner wins hearts by feeding stray animals with his earnings
P Devadas, a humble teashop owner from Kuttikol in Kasaragod, is quietly redefining kindness by spending a part of his daily earnings to feed stray dogs, cats, and pigeons in his locality. What began as a simple gesture eight years ago has now become a heartfelt daily ritual.
Running a modest tea stall in front of the Kuttikol panchayat office, Devadas starts his day by 7 am, welcomed by a waiting flock of pigeons. Without fail, he scatters wheat grains for them — a practice he maintains by purchasing around 60 kg of wheat every month from the local ration shop.
But his compassion extends far beyond birds. He also ensures that the stray dogs and cats around the area are fed and cared for, earning him admiration from the local community. For residents of Kuttikol, the sight of Devadas sharing his morning routine with animals has become endearing and symbolic of quiet generosity.
Standing firmly by his side in this mission is his wife, Kalyani. Together, they are raising three children — Dhanesh, Nithin, and Hariha Vishnu — in a home where empathy is the everyday norm.
Devadas’ actions reflect a simple truth: kindness needs no spotlight, only consistency.
