Mumbai’s morning rail services were severely impacted on Tuesday due to a technical issue at Badlapur railway station. At around 7:15 am, a crack was discovered on the rail track, causing significant delays on the Karjat-CSMT section, particularly between Karjat and Kalyan stations. Commuters faced delays of 20-30 minutes during peak hours as trains operated at reduced speeds.
To ensure continuity of services, railway authorities implemented temporary measures, initially permitting train movement at 10 km/h, which was later increased to 30 km/h. Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, confirmed that the situation was addressed, but the track section would require comprehensive repairs later in the day.
While delays persisted during the morning rush, the situation gradually improved as repairs were scheduled for the damaged track section. The maintenance block allowed for the replacement of the faulty section, and normal train speeds were expected to resume once the work was completed.
Commuters, especially those from Badlapur, faced overcrowding at stations as services were disrupted, with trains running slower than usual. However, as the day progressed, services slowly returned to normal.
