New Delhi: A 16-year-old Class 11 student from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped inside a sleeper bus after she became stranded at Greater Noida’s Pari Chowk during heavy rain. Delhi Police have arrested the driver and conductor in connection with the case.
According to police, the teenager, from Mainpuri district, had left home without informing her family after being scolded over her studies. She was travelling to Noida to meet her cousin when she mistakenly got off at Pari Chowk amid darkness and heavy rain.
Empty bus offered her a lift
The girl reportedly signalled an empty sleeper bus for help. The driver, identified as Kuldeep, and conductor Sandeep allegedly told her that the bus was going towards Noida Sector 63 and allowed her to board.
Police said the bus had earlier been taken to a workshop in Surajpur for repairs. After the repairs, it was being driven towards Timarpur when the accused allegedly encountered the teenager.
The girl told police that after the bus began moving, the conductor behaved inappropriately and that both men subsequently assaulted her and threatened her when she resisted. The bus travelled about 47 kilometres before she was allegedly abandoned near Kashmere Gate.
Police arrest two accused
After reaching safety, the teenager approached Kashmere Gate police and reported the alleged assault. Police arrested both men from a parking area in Timarpur and seized the bus for forensic examination. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage along the route and other evidence.
The case has renewed concerns over the safety of women and children travelling alone, particularly during late-night journeys and emergencies.
The investigation remains underway, and the allegations against the accused will be subject to due legal process.
