A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 17-year-old neighbour in Gwalior after he reportedly stalked her for nearly a year and threatened to circulate her private photographs and chat screenshots, police said.

Girl allegedly followed on way to coaching

According to the girl’s complaint, the accused had repeatedly followed her while she travelled to and from her coaching classes. He allegedly obtained private photographs and chat screenshots and later used them to threaten her.

The alleged harassment reportedly stopped for some time after the girl’s family counselled the teenager, but police said he later resumed following and threatening her.

On Saturday evening, the girl was allegedly travelling to a coaching class when the accused intercepted her on a motorcycle. Police said he threatened to make her private photographs and chats public and allegedly forced her to accompany him to a flat.

The girl told police that the accused sexually assaulted her at the flat before dropping her near her coaching centre. She later returned home and informed her mother.

Minor accused sent to reform home

The family subsequently approached the police, following which an FIR was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police traced the accused and took him into custody within hours. Since he is also 17, he was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent him to a reform home.

Police said the investigation is continuing, with statements being recorded and digital material referred to in the complaint being examined.

The identity of the survivor has not been disclosed to protect her privacy.
