A 17-year-old boy from Bhikupura village in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district died by suicide after consuming pesticide, allegedly distressed over the sexual assault of his mother and delays in police action, triggering widespread protests and tension in the area.
Assault complaint and alleged delay
According to police and local accounts, the boy’s mother was allegedly sexually assaulted in a field by a man identified as Sunil Malviya. The family approached Udaynagar police station on Friday night to lodge a complaint.
However, officials stated that immediate action was delayed due to the absence of a female officer required to handle such sensitive cases. A female officer was later called from Bagli, but the delay reportedly caused distress to the family.
Teen takes extreme step
On Saturday morning, the teenager allegedly consumed pesticide. He was rushed to Bagli Hospital but died on the way, leaving the village in shock.
Family members and locals believe the emotional strain and perceived inaction contributed to the boy’s decision.
Protests turn violent
Following the incident, angry villagers and relatives staged a road blockade on the Punjapura–Bagli road, placing the body and raising slogans against the police.
The protest escalated into violence, with the mob attacking the accused’s house, pelting stones, damaging property, and attempting to set a motorcycle on fire. Police intervened to bring the situation under control.
Accused arrested, probe underway
Police have arrested the accused, Sunil Malviya, and investigations into the assault case are ongoing. Authorities are also examining allegations of delay in registering the complaint.
Officials said the Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been consulted, and the accused’s property is being inspected for any illegal constructions, with further action likely if violations are found.
