In a deeply disturbing incident, a 17-year-old Class 12 student ended his life by jumping from the fourth floor of a mall in Phase 11 on Saturday morning. CCTV footage captured the boy’s final moments as he leapt from the mall’s internal corridors around 9:20 am, just minutes after entering the food court area.
According to police officials, the teenager had been mentally distressed for several days. His father revealed that a recent scolding for excessive mobile phone use may have triggered emotional turmoil. After the reprimand, the boy left home and went directly to the mall.
“He arrived at the mall by 9:10 am, bought a bottle of water, and was seen roaming aimlessly for about ten minutes,” said Gagandeep Singh, Station House Officer of Phase-11 Police Station. “After confirming no one was around, he jumped. He appeared to have planned the act.”
Mall security alerted authorities immediately. When the police reached the site, the boy was still breathing and was rushed to the Phase-6 civil hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The youth is survived by his parents and younger brother. His father, employed in the private sector, is reportedly devastated. Police have ruled out any foul play and have begun inquest proceedings under standard procedure.
Authorities continue to investigate the underlying reasons behind his depression as the family remains in deep shock
