Ghaziabad: A 17-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead by a security guard at an under-construction building in Ghaziabad after the guard reportedly mistook him for a thief.
The deceased, identified as Sameer, was a resident of the Sahibabad area. The incident occurred at the Parshvnath building under Sahibabad police station limits.
Teen reportedly entered building to shoot reel
According to the information available, Sameer had entered the premises to shoot a reel. The building is currently under construction and a security guard had been deployed to protect the site.
Police said the guard, identified as Vivek Yadav, noticed the teenager entering the premises and suspected that he had come there to steal.
The guard allegedly opened fire on the basis of this suspicion, with the bullet striking Sameer in the abdomen.
Teen dies during treatment
Sameer was rushed to MMG Hospital for treatment but reportedly succumbed to his injuries.
The firearm used in the incident, which police said was licensed, has been seized. The teenager’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Sameer’s family has alleged that the security guard and his associates assaulted the teenager. Police have detained the guard and his associates in connection with the incident.
Police probe circumstances of firing
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting and whether there was any basis for suspecting Sameer of theft.
ACP Sahibabad Amit Saxena said the guard had been taken into custody and that the investigation was under way. Police are also working to register a case based on the complaint from the victim’s family.
Further action will be taken after investigators examine all aspects of the incident, including the circumstances in which the guard opened fire.
