Teenager flees 2,000 km to escape exams, found in slum
In a startling case, a 17-year-old boy from Delhi’s Rohini fled his home to avoid final exams, traveling over 2,000 km to work as a laborer at a construction site near the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border, police revealed on Monday.
The teenager, a Class 11 student at a prestigious Connaught Place school, had no interest in academics. On February 21, he left his home and messaged his father, asking not to be searched for. His family filed a missing person report at Budh Vihar Police Station the same day.
Delhi Police launched an investigation, suspecting possible abduction. Multiple teams were deployed to track him down, and sources were activated to gather leads. Eventually, he was traced to Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, where he had been residing in a slum near a construction site.
Authorities discovered that the boy had contacted an acquaintance in Bengaluru before traveling there by train. He had started working as a daily wage laborer, far removed from his school life.
The case highlights the immense academic pressure on students, often pushing them to extreme decisions. His family has been notified, and efforts are being made to ensure his safe return.
