Hyderabad: A video capturing two Telangana policewomen dragging a protesting student by her hair has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and condemnation. The incident occurred during a protest by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU).

In the video, two policewomen on a scooter can be seen chasing a female protester, with one of them pulling the student by her hair, causing her to fall and cry out in pain. The video quickly gained attention, leading to widespread criticism of the police action.

Responding to the backlash, Rajendranagar police issued a clarification, stating that the action by the two lady constables was unintentional. They claimed that while attempting to grab the woman protester’s hand, her hair was inadvertently caught.

“ABVP students were protesting at the Agriculture University. The police reached there and tried to disperse them. A woman student tried to run and, meanwhile, two women cops, while trying to grab her hand, caught her hair. It was not intentional,” explained Nagendra Babu, Inspector of Police at Rajendranagar Police Station.

The incident prompted strong reactions from opposition leaders, including Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha. Expressing deep concern, Kavitha raised questions about the need for such aggressive tactics by the police against a peaceful student protester.

In a post on X, Kavitha demanded an unconditional apology from the Telangana Police and called for swift and strict action by the National Human Rights Commission against those involved. She emphasized that such arrogant behavior cannot become the norm and must be condemned by all.

The video has ignited a larger conversation about the use of force by law enforcement authorities and the importance of ensuring that protests are handled with sensitivity and respect for individuals’ rights, even in the face of dissent. As the incident continues to draw public attention, calls for accountability and a thorough investigation have gained momentum.
