Temple opens up for Eid prayer, Mosque houses distressed Hindu families

Thrissur: Kerala is one state that has been embroiled in Love Jihad and controversies revolving around religious conversion, hinting of strong overtones of communal hatred, distrust and suspicion.

It is only incidents like these that took place in Thrissur, which prove that there is much more love than hatred in the hearts of people.

If a temple in Eravathur near Mala of Thrissur District opened the doors for Muslim devotees to offer Eid prayers, a mosque here provided shelter and food to several Hindu families displaced by the massive floods. Groups of Muslim men were also seen cleaning two Hindu shrines affected by the deluge in Malappuram district.

In the first case, the mosque at Kochukadavu remained submerged in floodwaters and hence a temple hall was serving as the relief camp for the people of Kochukavdu and nearby Kuzhur, the two worst-hit areas due to floods in the district.

The Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam, which runs the Purappullikkavu Ratneswari temple happily offered the hall for the Muslims, who were searching for a place to conduct the Eid prayers.

All facilities for the Muslims, including water for the devotees to clean themselves before prayers were arranged by the temple trust.

Mosque shelters Hindu families
In another case, Juma Masjid, located at Akampadam in Chaliyar village in northern Malappuram, was sheltering 17 displaced Hindu families, including women, children and the elderly by giving space to sleep inside the mosque.

The mosque also provided them with rice, pulses and other essential materials along with food prepared in its canteen when the families returned after two days.
