Ten Indian Army personnel lost their lives and ten others were injured after a bulletproof Army vehicle skidded off a mountain road and plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Thursday. The tragic accident occurred while the troops were on operational duty, triggering nationwide grief and condolences.

Vehicle skids off treacherous road

Officials said the Casspir vehicle was moving along the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate road near Khanni Top when it veered off the road and fell into the gorge. The area is known for difficult terrain and sharp bends, which become even more dangerous during adverse weather conditions. The soldiers were reportedly heading for an operational deployment at the time of the accident.

Injured soldiers airlifted

Ten injured personnel were immediately evacuated from the site and airlifted to hospitals for specialised treatment. Senior officials said efforts are underway to ensure the best possible medical care for those injured. Rescue operations were carried out swiftly despite the challenging terrain.

Leaders express grief

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, describing the soldiers as brave personnel whose service and sacrifice would always be remembered. He said senior officials had been directed to ensure optimal treatment for the injured.

The Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed multiple casualties and stated that the mishap occurred while navigating treacherous terrain in bad weather.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the nation stood united with the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also conveyed condolences, assuring that all necessary directions had been issued for the best possible medical care.
