New Delhi: The total cases in India touched 3.23M showing a rise of 60,975 in the last 24 hours while the death tally was 59,449 the last 24 hours recording 848.

Worldwide, the total cases topped 23.7M, while recoveries were 15.4M and deaths 814K

Karnataka COVID recoveries cross 2 lakh mark

Bengaluru: Total Coronavirus recoveries in Karnataka have crossed the 2 lakh mark to reach 2,04,439, with 6,814 more recoveries in the past 24 hours, an official said on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday, 6,814 more COVID patients have been discharged,” said a health official.

After a gap of two days, COVID infections resurged in the southern state again with 8,161 more infections, propelling the state tally up to 2.91 lakh, roughly 8,000 cases short of the 3 lakh mark.

However, total active cases in the state stand at 82,410. Active cases have been hovering around 80,000 for quite some time now.

Within a day, Coronavirus infections in Bengaluru, Karnataka’s epicenter, have shot off beyond 2,000 cases with 2,294 more infections.

The health department has released the details of the cases in the last four days in Mysuru on Tuesday, which amounted to 1,331.

Among other places, Ballari accounted for 551 cases, followed by Davangere (318), Belagavi (298), Shivamogga (276), Dakshina Kannada (247), Koppal (238) and Kalaburagi (227).

Meanwhile, the state recorded a slightly higher number of COVID deaths at 148, raising the statewide toll to 4,958, just 42 fatalities shy of the 5,000 mark.

Of the 2.91 lakh cases, 82,410 are active while 751 are in the ICU.

Maha crosses 7-lakh cases, deaths again shoot up

Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Covid-19 tally crossed the 7 lakh-mark with another spike in the number of casualties above the 300-mark, health officials said here on Tuesday.

With 10,425 new cases, below the August 22 record of 14,492, the state’s total cases shot up from 693,398 to 703,823, and with 329 more fatalities, the death toll shot up from 22,465 to 22,794 — both highest in the country.

There was one death roughly every 4 minutes and 434 new cases added every hour to the state tally, with the load of deaths gradually shifting to non-metro areas.

The state recovery rate shot up from 72.47 percent to 73.14 percent, while the current mortality rate stood at 3.24 percent on Tuesday.

Against this, a high of 12,300 fully recovered patients returned home, taking the total number of discharged patients from 502,490 to 514,790 to date, considerably higher than the 165,921 active cases currently in the state.

Pune regained its lead position on Tuesday with a death toll of 58, followed by 37 in Kolhapur, 35 each in Mumbai and Raigad, and 31 in Thane.

Besides, there were 24 fatalities in Nagpur, 21 in Aurangabad, 15 in Sangli, and 12 in Jalgaon. On the lower side, there were 8 deaths each in Nashik, Ahmednagar, Satara and Latur, 7 in Osmanabad, 4 in Solapur, 3 each in Palghar, Beed, and Bhandara, 2 in Chandrapur, 1 each in Dhule, Jalna, Parbhani, Nanded, Akola, Buldhana and Wardha.

The day’s highlights were a sudden spurt of fatalities in Kolhapur, Raigad, and Aurangabad while 9 districts reported zero deaths.

Remaining below the 50-range for the 12th day with 35 fatalities, Mumbai’s death toll increased from 7,442 to 7,477 and the number of corona cases increased by only 587 — the lowest in over 3 months — to touch 137,683 now.

Of the total 8 circles, the MMR (Thane circle, comprising Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad) remains on the brink as deaths spiral and cases pile up, with the fatalities shooting up by 104 deaths from 12,279 a day earlier to 12,383, and with 1,707 new infectees, the total cases shot up from 311,066 a day earlier to 312,773 now.

Pune district’s cases touched 155,039 with the fatalities increasing from 3,765 a day earlier to 3,823.

Thane district is on the third spot (after Pune and Mumbai), witnessing 124,261 cases while the death toll increased from 3,593 the previous day to 3,624 now.

With 70 more fatalities, the Pune circle’s (comprising Pune, Solapur and Satara districts) death toll increased from 4,758 to 4,828 and the case tally zoomed up by 3,362 to reach 183,074 now.

Nashik circle recorded 2,037 fatalities and 82,959 cases, followed by Kolhapur circle with 980 deaths and 32,890 cases, and Aurangabad circle with 842 fatalities and 28,821 cases.

Next is Latur circle with 638 fatalities and 21,889 cases, Nagpur circle with 604 deaths and 25,746 cases, and Akola division with 416 fatalities and 15,011 cases.

Meanwhile, the number of people sent to home-quarantine increased from 12,44,024 to 12,53,273 now, while the number of those in institutional quarantine went down from 33,922 to 33,668 on Tuesday.

Kerala sees a new all-time high of 2,375 COVID cases

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Tuesday recorded a new high of 2,375 COVID cases, Health Minister K.K. Shailaja said.

In a statement issued here, Shailaja said that at present there are 21,232 positive cases, while 40,343 people have been cured of the disease.

In the last 24 hours, 34,344 people were tested.

“Of the 2,375 cases, 2,142 cases were local infectees, and Thiruvananthapuram district accounted for 413. At present, 1,83,794 people are under observation which includes 17,010 in hospitals. There are 619 hotspots in the state,” the Minister said.

J&K reports 701 new COVID cases, tally 33,776

Jammu: The J&K administration said on Tuesday that the Union Territory reported 701 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, of which 139 were from Jammu division and 562 from Kashmir division, taking the UT’s Covid tally to 33,776.

With 14 COVID deaths in the last 24 hours, J&K’s death toll mounted to 638.

On a positive note, 389 people were discharged from various hospitals on Tuesday, 79 from Jammu division and 310 from the Kashmir division.

According to the daily media bulletin, out of the 33,776 positive cases reported so far, 7,544 are active cases, while 25,594 persons have recovered.

Gujarat’s COVID tally rises to 88,942, death toll at 2,930

Gandhinagar: Gujarat on Tuesday recorded 1,096 new coronavirus cases to take its tally to 88,942, while its toll reached 2,930 with 20 more deaths.

During August so far, the state has seen 27,509 new cases, with the daily average well above the 1,000 mark.

A total of 1,011 patients were discharged on Tuesday, taking the total to 71,261.

The state currently has 14,751 active cases, out of which 79 critical patients are still on ventilator.

Of the new cases, Surat, which has become the state’s worst-hit, recorded 250, while Ahmedabad saw 157 and Vadodara, whose figures have been steadily rising, saw 122.

Rajkot followed with 95 cases, Jamnagar 80, Bhavnagar 36, Gandhinagar 30, Panchmahals 29, Junagadh 28, Bharuch 26, Kutch 22, Gir-Somnath 19, Dahod and Mehsana with 17 each, Morbi and Patan 15 each, Amreli, Kheda, and Narmada 14 each, Banaskantha 11, Navsari, Sabarkantha, and Valsad nine each, Chhota Udepur, Porbandar, and Surendranagar eight each, Botad and Tapi seven each, Anand and Mahisagar six each, Aravalli five and Devbhumi Dwarka with three.

Of Tuesday’s deaths, seven were reported from Surat, four from Ahmedabad, two each in Amreli and Junagadh, and one each in Bhavnagar, Tapi, Rajkot, Vadodara, and Gir-Somnath.

Ahmedabad leads with 1,697 deaths, followed by 607 in Surat, 122 in Vadodara, 75 in Rajkot, 50 in Gandhinagar, 39 in Bhavnagar, 35 in Patan, 26 in Mehsana, 24 in Aravalli, 17 in Panchmahals, 16 in Banaskantha, 15 in Kheda and Anand and 11 deaths in Bharuch.

However, Gujarat’s mortality rate is gradually coming down and is 3.29 percent now.

Health authorities have conducted 18,91,775 RT-PCR tests so far, while there are 4,76,291 people in quarantine – 4,75,669 at home and 629 in government facilities.

COVID claims 92 more lives in Andhra, tally crosses 3.7 lakh

Amaravati: Covid-19 claimed 92 more lives in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday while the state reported 9,927 new cases.

The fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 3,460 while the case tally mounted to 3,71,639.

According to the media bulletin released by the State Command Control Room, 16 fatalities were reported from Chittoor district, 11 from Anantapur and 10 each from Kadapa and Prakasam district.

Eight people each succumbed in East Godavari and West Godavari districts, six each in Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, and Nellore, four in Krishna district while one death occurred in Vizianagaram district.

Chittoor is the worst-affected district in terms of fatalities with 352 deaths so far, followed by Guntur (346), East Godavari (343), and Kurnool (337).

Officials said despite a large number of fatalities, the mortality rate of Andhra Pradesh was still low at 0.93 percent against the national average of 1.84 percent.

During the last 24 hours, 1,353 cases were reported from East Godavari district, pushing the district’s tally to 52,039, the highest in the state. As many as 967 cases were reported from Chittoor, 949 from Nellore, and 917 from Guntur.

The 24-hour period also saw 9,419 people recovering from the virus. With this, the cumulative recoveries rose to 2,78,247. The recovery rate in the state improved to 74.87 percent while the national average is 75.92 percent.

The state now has 89,932 active cases with a maximum of 17,750 active cases in East Godavari, followed by 8,814 in Chittoor, 7,324 in Prakasam, 7,217 in Vizianagaram, 6,648 in Guntur and 6,493 in Kurnool district.

During the last 24 hours ending 9 a.m. on Tuesday, authorities conducted 64,351 tests comprising 35,605 VRDL/Truenat/NACO tests and 28,746 rapid antigen tests. With this, the state has so far tested 33,56,852 samples.

Andhra Pradesh stands fourth after Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra in the number of tests conducted so far. However, it ranks first in terms of tests per million with a figure of 62,862. With an 11.07 percent positivity rate, it fares better than states like Maharashtra (18.90 percent), Karnataka (11.56) and Chandigarh (11.83).

TN sees 5,951 more corona cases, 107 deaths

Chennai: As many as 5,951 persons tested positive for coronavirus in Tamil Nadu over the past 24 hours while 6,998 infected persons were cured and discharged from various hospitals, the state Health Department said on Tuesday.

In a statement issued here, the department said the total number of coronavirus infected persons in Tamil Nadu went up to 391,303, and the total number of cured to 332,454.

The state also recorded the death of 107 Covid-19 patients, taking the toll till date to 6,721.

The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state after taking into account the cured and dead stands at 52,128.

State capital Chennai continued to head the Covid-19 infection table with 1,270 persons testing positive for the virus and the total tally standing at 127,949.

The number of infected children in the state in the age group 0-12 went up to 18,433.
