Tragedy struck Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) in Gandhinagar as 21-year-old Vansh Gaint, a third-year student of the integrated LLB program, was found dead in his hostel room. The heartbreaking incident has left the campus community in mourning, with the cause of the student’s drastic decision still unclear.

Vansh, a native of Patiala, Punjab, was discovered by fellow students who forced open his dorm door after he failed to respond to repeated calls around noon on Tuesday. He was found unresponsive, allegedly having taken his own life by hanging. The university’s medical team rushed to assist, and he was taken to a private hospital near Bhat. Despite efforts, he was declared dead after 45 minutes of admission.

The Infocity police have registered a case of accidental death and begun an investigation. Inspector V R Kher confirmed that statements from Vansh’s family and peers will be recorded as part of the probe.

University registrar Dr Nitin Malik expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating the administration has assured the family of full support, including facilitating a forensic investigation. Vansh’s mortal remains have been sent to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for postmortem, after which they will be flown to his hometown for final rites.

Peers described Vansh as a vibrant, helpful student involved in numerous campus activities. Many saw him following his routine as usual on Tuesday morning, even speaking to his family hours before the incident. Counseling services have been extended to support affected students.
