Jodhpur: Three medical students have been apprehended for allegedly robbing a milk van in this city, with two others currently evading arrest, authorities disclosed on Tuesday.
According to Devendra Singh, the Station House Officer of Shastri Nagar Police Station, the driver of the milk van reported that five individuals accosted and assaulted him on Sunday night, seizing the van along with crates of milk and cash.
“At present, we have detained three students to maintain public order. They will be presented before the court and subsequently charged with robbery,” Singh stated.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vikas Bishnoi, a final-year MBBS student, Mahesh Bishnoi, a third-year MBBS student, and Om Prakash Jat. All three are enrolled at SN Medical College.
The two suspects who managed to flee the scene are students at SN Medical College and AIIMS Jodhpur, police sources confirmed.
Reportedly, the students intercepted the milk van near MDM Hospital’s gates, forcing the driver out of the vehicle.
“After assaulting the driver, three of the accused restrained him at the rear of the van, while the other two took control of the van and drove away,” the complaint stated.
The driver also reported a theft of ₹4,600 in cash during the incident.
Police responded swiftly, reviewing CCTV footage and identifying the accused as medical students. The looted van was later discovered abandoned around 5 kilometers away, missing two crates of milk.
“On preliminary assessment, these students appear to have embarked on this crime as a reckless escapade. They ventured out from their hostel during rain and targeted a passing milk van,” SHO Devendra Singh remarked.
