A terrifying encounter unfolded in Pozhuthana town when three schoolboys—Rihan, Risan, and their cousin Sabir—had a close call with a wild elephant late Wednesday night. The incident, captured on CCTV, shows the boys fleeing in panic as one elephant aggressively charged after them.
The students were returning on a bike to a relative’s home around 11:30 pm, later than usual because they waited for their uncle arriving from the Gulf. Near their school, they spotted three elephants blocking the road. Trying to avoid trouble, they switched off the bike’s headlight and stopped, but one elephant became enraged and charged at them.
During the frantic escape, Risan slipped and fell. The elephant blocked him with its trunk, making him fear for his life, but he managed to break free by slipping between the animal’s trunk and a nearby compound wall, finally finding safety inside a relative’s house.
The local Panchayat’s Welfare Chairperson, Shahina Shamsuddin, noted that elephant visits to town are very rare despite the nearby plantations being frequented by herds. The forest department has yet to track the three elephants that fled after the incident, leaving residents shaken.
Rihan and Risan are siblings, sons of Asiya and Rassack, while Sabir is their cousin, son of Salmath and Sulaiman. Thankfully, all three escaped unharmed.
