Three young men lost their lives in a tragic road accident on NH-161B in the early hours of Sunday after the motorcycle they were riding plunged into an under-construction culvert near the Nizampet mandal headquarters.
The deceased have been identified as Avuti Narasimhulu (27), Jinna Mallesh (24) and Jinna Mahesh (23). All three were close relatives, adding to the profound grief experienced by their family and the local community.
Accident occurred during early morning ride
According to police officials, the incident took place during an early morning ride when the motorcycle veered off the highway and slipped into the culvert at an ongoing construction site. The impact proved fatal for all three riders, who died on the spot.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that poor visibility at the location may have played a crucial role in the mishap. The stretch reportedly lacked adequate lighting, reflective barricades, and clear warning signboards to alert motorists about the incomplete culvert.
Safety lapses under scrutiny
Local residents and commuters have long raised concerns about safety along this stretch of NH-161B, especially during night and early morning hours. The absence of basic safety measures at construction zones continues to pose serious risks to road users.
Police sources indicated that the lack of proper illumination and signage is suspected to be a major contributing factor in this accident. Authorities are expected to examine whether construction norms and safety guidelines were followed at the site.
Bodies shifted for postmortem
A case has been registered in connection with the accident. The bodies were shifted to the government hospital in Narayankhed for postmortem examination, following which they will be handed over to the bereaved family.
The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter monitoring of highway construction works and the enforcement of mandatory safety precautions to prevent avoidable loss of life
