Thrissur: In a serious blow to police integrity, Senior Civil Police Officer Sajeesh A was arrested red-handed by Vigilance officials on Wednesday at Ollur Police Station while accepting a ₹2,000 bribe.
The arrest stemmed from a complaint by Yesudas, a clerk assisting a lawyer representing a road accident victim. The victim had hired legal help due to a language barrier, and Yesudas was handling the formalities when Sajeesh allegedly demanded money to issue a required certificate.
Vigilance sleuths organized a sting operation after verifying the complaint. In a monitored call, Sajeesh subtly referred to “expenses”, a veiled bribe request.
On the day of the trap, Yesudas carried currency notes coated with phenolphthalein powder, supplied by Vigilance. Sajeesh stepped outside the station—with the official police seal in his pocket—and accepted the tainted cash. He was immediately nabbed by the Vigilance team.
Sajeesh underwent a medical exam post-arrest and was produced before court. The incident has triggered serious concerns about corruption within law enforcement and is expected to prompt further scrutiny of police conduct.
