In a striking wildlife rescue early Sunday, a tiger was discovered ensnared in a deep pit at Mailadumpara, situated within Kadukkai Estate near the border dividing Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The incident unfolded in the predawn hours when forest officials arrived on site at approximately 5:30 am.
The majestic animal had fallen into the pit, which was located on farmland owned by a local farmer named Sunny. Notably, a dog was also trapped alongside the tiger, caught in the same pit. Both animals were carefully and successfully rescued after forest department personnel administered tranquillizers to calm the tiger.
This unexpected sighting marked the first time a tiger had been observed in this particular area, according to Sunny. The farmland is part of a private cardamom plantation lying close to the interstate border, a region not previously known for such wildlife presence.
To safeguard the local community and prevent crowds from gathering, authorities quickly cordoned off the site. This measure helped maintain order while ensuring the safety of both people and animals in the vicinity.
The rescue operation highlighted the challenges of living close to wildlife habitats, reminding residents of the delicate balance between nature and human activity. The tiger’s safe release is a relief to conservationists and locals alike, underscoring the importance of rapid response in wildlife emergencies.
