TIRUCHI: The DVAC (Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption) on Thursday arrested J Sebastian (56), a Revenue Assistant (bill collector) with Tiruchy City Corporation, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 to process a vacant land tax request.

According to DVAC sources, R Srinivasan (51), a resident of KK Nagar, had applied to get vacant land tax fixed for his plot located near his residence under the Ponmalai Zone. When the request was unreasonably delayed, Srinivasan approached the civic office, where Sebastian allegedly demanded ₹10,000 to move the application forward.

Acting on Srinivasan’s complaint, DVAC officials registered a case and laid a trap. A team led by DSP Manikandan caught Sebastian red-handed while accepting the bribe and placed him under arrest.

This incident adds to the growing list of corruption cases involving local body officials, raising concerns over transparency and accountability in basic municipal services.
