Five tourists from Kerala, intoxicated and swimming outside permitted hours, were rescued by lifeguards at Calangute Beach, North Goa, on Friday morning. The group, aged between 25 and 30, entered the sea at 6:20 am, unaware of the dangers. A lifeguard from Drishti Marine Lifesavers was alerted when they were swept 30 meters from the shore by a rip current.
Four lifeguards quickly responded, using rescue tubes to bring the tourists safely back to shore. The tourists were handed over to their friends after the rescue.
Swimming on Goa’s beaches is restricted between 6 pm and 7 am for safety.
