THRISSUR: A 33-year-old man, Sineesh from Kodassery, died on Friday after being administered anaesthesia ahead of a scheduled hernia operation at Chalakudy taluk hospital.
He was admitted on Thursday following advice from his consulting doctor. On Friday morning, after undergoing routine preoperative tests, Sineesh was given an anaesthetic injection. Moments later, his condition rapidly worsened as his vital signs crashed. He was urgently moved to the ICU as his heart rate continued to decline.
Doctors decided to transfer him to St James Hospital, Chalakudy, for advanced care. However, he passed away en route, before any further treatment could begin.
The family has blamed the taluk hospital for alleged medical negligence and announced plans to file formal complaints with the District Medical Officer (DMO), the state health minister, and the chief minister’s office.
Calling the incident deeply unfortunate, hospital superintendent Dr Mini stated that the staff had made every effort to save him.
Local ward member Sheema Benny described Sineesh as the sole breadwinner of his family, working as a daily wage labourer in construction. His sudden death has left his family devastated.
Sineesh leaves behind his wife Aparna and two young children, aged five and one.
