A violent clash at Panjab University’s UIET campus during a musical event turned fatal when 21-year-old Aditya Thakur, a second-year computer science student, was fatally wounded. He suffered a deep stab injury in his thigh, leading to excessive hemorrhaging. Despite being rushed to PGIMER, Chandigarh, he could not be saved.
The altercation unfolded on March 28, when a heated argument escalated outside the concert venue. A gang of unidentified individuals ambushed Aditya and his companions, launching a brutal assault. He was stabbed, while two of his friends sustained injuries. A makeshift tourniquet was applied but failed to control the bleeding effectively, exacerbating his condition.
The university administration, in response to security failures, has imposed a ban on celebrity concerts to curb potential threats. Law enforcement has identified several culprits and upgraded the case to murder. Investigations are ongoing, with arrests imminent.
Outraged by the lack of campus safety, students staged demonstrations, demanding strict action. Protesters stormed the Dean Student Welfare (DSW) office, leading to clashes with security personnel. Later, a candlelight vigil was held, urging authorities to be accountable for the tragedy.
With growing pressure on officials to ensure justice, PU remains tense as students seek immediate reforms.
