Alappuzha: In a heartbreaking accident, a 31-year-old man lost his life on his birthday after the car he was travelling in plunged into a canal near the Punnamada Rajeev Jetty around 2 AM on Sunday.

The deceased, Bijoy Antony, hailed from Thathampally, Kuttichira. The vehicle reportedly lost control while navigating a curve, flipping over and crashing into the water. The car submerged quickly, trapping Bijoy inside.

Two other occupants of the car, also from Thathampally, managed to escape and swim to safety.

Rescue personnel from the Alappuzha Fire and Rescue Unit retrieved Bijoy from the submerged car. He was rushed to Alappuzha General Hospital, but doctors declared him dead soon after.

Adding to the emotional weight of the tragedy, it was revealed that the day marked Bijoy’s birthday.

He was the son of Antony and Pushpa, and his brother is currently residing abroad.
