In a tragic incident in Thiruvananthapuram, a young man lost his life after being struck by an ambulance. M Ananthu, 23, from Asannagar Hill near Muttathar Kallumoodu, was crossing the road in front of the South Indian Bank on the Eenchakkal-Kallumoodu bypass around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday when the accident occurred.
Ananthu, an employee at Helmet World in Nanthancode, had just finished work and was heading home. After disembarking from a bus at Eenchakal, he was crossing the bypass road when a bike from Kallumoodu hit him, causing him to fall onto the road. At that moment, an ambulance from a private hospital in Ambalathara, en route to the Medical College with an emergency patient, ran over Ananthu.
The ambulance stopped immediately after the incident. Local residents alerted the Fort Police, who arrived quickly at the scene. The ambulance continued to the hospital with its emergency patient, while Ananthu’s body was transferred to the Medical College Hospital in another ambulance and moved to the mortuary. The Fort Police have taken the ambulance driver into custody and registered a case. Ananthu is survived by his brother, M Gopikrishnan.
