Tragic Family Violence: Elderly Man Murdered by Son in Tripura
Agartala, Nov 3: A 65-year-old man was brutally killed, reportedly by his 34-year-old son in Tripura, as per police reports on Sunday.
The suspect, named Abhrajit, allegedly assaulted his father, Kajal Das, multiple times with an iron rod, resulting in instant death at their home in College Tilla, West Tripura, according to neighbors’ accounts.
Authorities from the Agartala East police station and College Tilla outpost quickly responded to the scene, where they discovered the victim’s body. By the time the police arrived, Abhrajit had already fled.
He was apprehended late Saturday night, aided by a sniffer dog. Neighbors informed police that Abhrajit, a driver of a battery-operated auto-rickshaw and known to be a heavy drinker, frequently quarreled with his father over various matters.
Kajal, who retired from the Fisheries Department, had attempted to persuade Abhrajit to abandon his drinking habits and adopt a healthier lifestyle, but these efforts were unsuccessful, local residents reported.
A forensic team later visited the site to collect evidence. This incident occurred just 36 days after the murder of an elderly woman, allegedly at the hands of her sons and daughter-in-law in the same district.
In that case, the woman’s sons—Ranabir and Biplab Debnath, along with the former’s wife—were arrested for the shocking death of 55-year-old Minati Debnath, who was reportedly tied to a tree and burned alive.
